I recently discovered the discography of the Cult, and I have fallen in love. God help me.
My internship at an archives is interesting in sort of a big picture way (valuable experience, the means to put theory into practice, etc.), but as far as the little picture goes, it's....not intellectually stimulating. So I compensate by listening to dance music, like Assemblage 23, or music that, uh, flat-out rocks. Like, you know, the Cult.
I'd never listened to the Cult before this. I remember being in 6th grade and asking my friends at the lunch table if they had ever heard of the Cure, and one absent-minded girl got my hopes up until she realized she was thinking of the Cult. And that pissed me off. So I guess I refused to listen to the Cult because they weren't the Cure.
I wonder if I would have liked them if I had.
I don't know much (hell, anything) about their history, but I see them as carrying on Led Zeppelin's tradition of being an English band waaaay into American blues rock.
And they're good! They really are good at what they do. And they make my work interesting.
